Celebrating Samuel Leroy Jackson

SAMUEL LEROY JACKSON This American movie sensation was born on December 21, 1948 in Washington, D.C., US to Roy Henry Jackson and Elizabeth Harriet. Jackson met his father just twice before dying of alcoholism as a result of him living far away Kansas City.


Jackson was raised by his mother who was a factory worker. According to DNA tests, Jackson partially descends from the Benga people of Gabon (Central Africa), and who later became a full Gabonese in 2019. Jackson’s initial pursuit was towards a degree in Marine Biology. Hence, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackson found a huge flare for acting after joining a local acting group, and which prompted him to opt fully into acting. He co-founded the “Just us Theatre” before graduating in 1972.
He appeared in plays like; The Penny Opera, Home and A Soldier’s Play. In 1976, He moved from Atlanta to New York City spending several years there to appear in stage plays like; The Piano Lesson and Two Trains Running premiers. Jackson was mentored by Morgan Freeman, who took him through his early film career, predominantly in minor role films like “Coming to America”.

The “pulp fiction” movie in 1993’s brought Jackson to a global stardom, as his role as Jules Winfield in the movie apposition him to the part perfectly. Jackson said “To know that somebody had written something like Jules for me, I was overwhelmed, thankful, and arrogant”.
Although Jackson started receiving poor review from critics after the Pulp Fiction movie, but this ended with his involvement in two box-office; “Die Hard with a Vengeance and A Time to Kill”. Jackson has been honored severally with innumerable awards of recognition, notable among is “Hollywood Walk of Fame” at 7018 Hollywood Blvd in the year 2000. Jackson got married in 1980 to an actress, a sport channel producer LaTanya Richardson, whom he met while attending Morehouse College. The couple was blessed with a daughter “Zoe” in 1982. Jackson is a sport lover; from Toronto Raptors basketball team fan to a Liverpool F.C soccer team supporter. Jackson is a humanitarian who has launched diverse campaigns on health consciousness.
