Dr. John Kwesi: Ghanaian Optometrist turn Youngest African Fellow Of American Academy Of Optometry

Dr. John Kwesi Assan (OD, FAAO) is the current Clinical Optomerist and Clinical Head at Anidaso Eye Centre, Akim Oda, Ghana. Prior to this, he was an intern Optomerist, a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Cape Coast (Oct 2021-Aug 2022).

The Ghanaian was awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) at the American Academy of Optometry’s centennial celebration 2022 Annual Meeting, which took place in San Diego, California, USA, from October 20–29, 2022, making him the youngest Optomerist in Africa to achieve the milestone.

Notably, American Academy of Optometry fellows are judged according to the highest standards of professional competence. The initials “FAAO” (Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry) after a professional’s name let patients and coworkers know that they have met the rigorous requirements for Fellowship.

Speaking on his award, Dr. John ascribed his accomplishments to God’s Grace and his laser-like focus on achieving his goals.

Dr. John was issued an International Fellow Travel Award in September 2022 by American Academy of Optometry Foundation “as a support to international fellows who have demonstrated leadership potential and excellence to attend the Academy Meeting in person). Worthy to note also is the fact that Dr. John is the first recipient of the award in the history of the American Academy of Optometry Foundation.

It is therefore safe to call him a man of many firsts. We wish him many more wonderful accomplishments as he proceeds in his career.
