Happy birthday to Nigerian-born New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, kickboxer and former boxer, Israel Mobolaji Adesanya.
Israel Mobolaji Adesanya was born on 22 July 1989 in Lagos, Nigeria into the family of Oluwafemi and Taiwo Adesanya. His dad was an accountant and him mum, a nurse. He is the eldest of give children. He is a Nigerian-born New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, kickboxer and former boxer.
He attended Chrisland School, Opebi after which he signed up for Taekwondo after-school club. He was later removed by his mum when he sustained an injury. He relocated to Rotorua, New Zealand at age 10. He attended Routorua Boys’ High. He recounted that he was bullied during his high school years, this formed his major decision of pursuing martial arts.
After high school, he proceeded to Universal College of Learning in Whanganui where he obtained B.Sc in Computer Science. At18, he picked up a training in kickboxing, a decision that was inspired by Muay Thai’s film “Ong-Bak”. At 20, he focused fully kickboxing which he made an amateur record of 32–0 before becoming a professional and started fighting in China. At 21, he moved to Auckland, Newzealand to start a training in mixed martial arts at City Kickboxing under the tutelage of Eugene Bareman.
Adesanya came put professionally in his boxing career in November 2014 against the then two-time Australian champion, Daniel Ammann. He won his first professional fight against Asher Derbyshire in the first seed where he knocked his opponent out in the second round.
Adesanya fought in the 2015 Super 8 Cruiserweight tournament and won his semifinal match against Zane Hopman.
