In recognition of the importance of education, the United Nations General Assembly declared January 24 to be International Day of Education.
“To invest in people, emphasize education” will be the topic of the fifth International Day of Education, which is being observed today, January 24, 2023. The UN Transforming Education Summit in September 2022 gave rise to a worldwide movement, and this year’s Day will advocate for preserving that momentum while outlining how to put commitments and international initiatives into practice.
This year’s International Day has been set aside by UNESCO to honor Afghan women and girls who have been denied the opportunity to receive an education. It demands that the ban limiting their access to school be immediately lifted.
“UNESCO would like to dedicate the fifth edition of this International Day to all the girls and women in Afghanistan, who have been denied their right to learn, study and teach. The Organization condemns this serious attack on human dignity and on the fundamental right to education.”
