It’s the tenth anniversary of the International Day of the Girl (IDG) today!
Since the United Nations designated October 11 as the International Day of the Girl in December 2011, it has become a significant global occasion to recognize the strength of girls and draw attention to the obstacles they confront.
Nigeria will host the fifth annual Global Girls’ Summit, a multicultural, cross-generational gathering where girls meet, share challenges, and urge for action toward gender equality, to commemorate International Day of the Girl in 2022.
When they gather in Abuja on October 12 and 13, they will be urging those in positions of authority to support their right to political involvement.

The two-day event’s itinerary was designed by the girls themselves and features interactive seminars, expert panel discussions, and a visit from Angélique Kidjo, a 5-time Grammy Award-winning Beninese singer-songwriter, actress, and activist.
