Singing policeman Wins South Africa Idols Contest

Idols, a talent competition with franchises all around the world, had a police officer as its winner this year in South Africa.

In Sunday night’s season finale, Warrant Officer Thapelo Molomo, 29, defeated 10 other competitors.

Upon hearing his name called as the victor, he collapsed to the ground and prayed live on stage.

“Thank you so much to everyone that has voted for me… I’m really grateful for what you have done for me. If it’s possible with me, it can be possible with you,” He said.

At the event, the nation’s police minister thanked the winner, adding that “the officer serves as an inspiration to police officers across the country to believe in their talents as they serve and protect the nation.”

Around 1 million rand ($58,000; £49,000) in prize money was Mr. Molomo’s takeaway.

Given the variety of other prizes he got, such as a recording deal and a car, South Africans on Twitter weren’t persuaded by his claim that he would return to his police duties.
